Calcium Carbonate for Cable Applications
Cables are typically constructed with solid or stranded copper conductors. Traditionally, their protective jackets are made from PVC plastics, which are not only flammable but also produce dense smoke and release harmful toxic gases when burning—posing serious risks to human health.
Incorporating calcium carbonate into cable compounds provides an excellent solution to these challenges:
- Calcium carbonate is non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless, making it environmentally friendly.
- It has a high thermal decomposition temperature (above 800°C), whereas common plastics ignite around 400°C. This means calcium carbonate remains stable in the early stages of a fire and does not decompose into carbon dioxide prematurely.
Additionally, using ACMA calcium carbonate in cable manufacturing offers a highly cost-effective filler solution, helping to lower production costs while enhancing performance.
